Yarn needle

Row counter (optional)

GAUGE

Gauge is not critical for this project.

In Garter stitch, 20 sts and 32 rows = 4"/10 cm; in Slip-stitch pattern, 20 sts and 40 rows = 4"/10 cm

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES

(RS) Slip 1 wyib: Knit number of stitches indicated, with yarn in back (the knit position), slip the next stitch purlwise; continue in pattern.

(WS) Slip 1 wyif: Knit the number of stitches indicated, yarn forward (to the purl position), slip the next stitch purlwise, yarn back (to the knit position); continue in pattern.

STITCHES USED

Garter stitch: Knit all sts every row.

Garter Slip-stitch Pattern (multiple of 5 sts + 3)
Rows 1 (RS) and 3: Using MC, k1, slip 1 wyib, * K4, slip 1 wyib; repeat from * across to last st, end k1.

Rows 2 and 4: Using MC, k1, slip 1 wyif, *k4, slip 1 wyif; repeat from * across.

Rows 5 and 6: Using CC, knit (Garter st).

Rows 7 and 9: Using MC, k3, * slip 2 wyib K3; repeat from * across

Rows 8 and 10:  Using MC, k3, * slip 2 wyif, K3; repeat from * across.

Rows 11 and 12: Using CC, knit (Garter st).
Repeat Rows 1 – 12 for Garter Slip-st patt.

NOTE

Contrast Color (CC) may be carried loosely up side of piece when not in use. When working edging, be sure to enclose stands in edging. This will eliminate having to weave in as many ends during Finishing.

AFGHAN

Using CC, cast on 133 sts.

(WS) Begin Garter st; work even for 3 rows, end with a WS row.

(RS) Change to Garter Slip-st patt, beginning Row 1; work 12-row repeat of patt 25 times—303 rows total.

Work Rows 1 – 6 once more.

Continuing with CC, bind off all sts loosely.
Edging: With RS facing, using CC, beginning at one corner, pick up and knit 1 st for every 2 rows along side edge of Afghan to next corner—156 sts.

(WS) Begin Garter st; work even for 2 rows.

Bind off all sts loosely.

Repeat for opposite side edge.

FINISHING

Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
