NOTES

1. Throw is made from 63 squares arranged in 9 rows of 7 squares each.

2. The first square is worked then the next 62 squares are worked through Rnd 6, and joined to any neighboring squares when working the joining rnd (Rnd 7).

FIRST SQUARE

With A, ch 4; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, [sc in ring, ch 7 sc in ring, ch 2] 4 times; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off—8 sc, 4 ch-2 sps, and 4 ch-7 corner sps.

Rnd 2: With RS facing, join B with sc in any ch-2 sp, ch 2, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same ch-2 sp; working behind ch-7 sps, (sc, ch 2, sc, ch 2, sc) in each remaining ch-2 sp around; join with slip st in first sc—12 sc, and 8 ch-2 sps.

Rnd 3: (Slip st, ch 1, sc, ch 2, sc) in first ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 7, slip st in 7th ch from hook, [(sc, ch 2, sc) in next 2 ch-2 sps, ch 7, slip st in 7th ch from hook] 3 times; join with slip st in first sc—16 sc, 8 ch-2 sps, and 4 ch-7 corner sps. Fasten off.

Rnd 4: With RS facing, join A with sc in any ch-2 sp following a ch-7 corner sp, ch 2, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 sp; working behind ch-7 sps, (sc, ch 2, sc, ch 2, sc) in each remaining ch-2 sp around; join with slip st in first sc—24 sc, and 16 ch-2 sps.

Rnd 5: (Slip st, ch 1, sc, ch 2, sc) in first ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next 3 ch-2 sps, ch 5, slip st in 5th ch from hook, [(sc, ch 2, sc) in next 4 ch-2 sps, ch 5, slip st in 5th ch from hook] 3 times; join with slip st in first sc—32 sc, 16 ch-2 sps, and 4 ch-5 corner sps. Fasten off.

Interlock ch-7 and ch-5 corner sps: From RS, insert hook (or fingers) in a ch-7 sp of Rnd 1 and draw corresponding ch-7 sp of Rnd 3 through. Insert hook (or fingers) in ch-7 sp of Rnd 3 and draw corresponding ch-5 sp of Rnd 5 through. Repeat around square until all 4 sets of ch-sps are interlocked.

Rnd 6: Join B with sc in any ch-5 corner sp, ch 2, sc in same ch-5 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in each remaining ch-2 and ch-5 sp around; join with slip st in first sc—40 sc, and 20 ch-2 sps.

Rnd 7: (Slip st, ch 1, sc, ch 5, sc) in first ch-2 sp, *[ch 3, sc in next ch-2 sp] 4 times, ch 3, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat from * 2 more times, [ch 3, sc in next ch-2 sp] 4 times, ch 3; join with slip st in first sc—24 sc, 20 ch-3 sps, and 4 ch-5 corner sps. Fasten off.

NEXT SQUARE (make and join 62 more squares)

With A, ch 4; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Rnds 1–6: Work Rnds 1–6 of First Square.

Make and join squares to form a grid of 9 rows of 7 squares each. Before working the joining rnd, determine placement of square. Join the ch-sps of each square to neighboring squares by working a side-join instead of a ch-3, and a corner-join instead of a corner ch-5, as follows:

side-join: ch 1, slip st in corresponding ch-3 sp of neighboring square, ch 1.

corner-join: ch 2, slip st in corner ch-5 sp of neighboring square, ch 2.

Rnd 7 (joining rnd): (Slip st, ch 1, sc, ch 5 or corner-join, sc) in first ch-2 sp, *[ch 3 or side-join, sc in next ch-2 sp] 4 times, ch 3 or side-join, (sc, ch 5 or corner-join, sc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat from * 2 more times, [ch 3 or side-join, sc in next ch-2 sp] 4 times, ch 3 or side-join; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
