Caron International's Simply Soft Quick (100% acrylic; 3 oz/86g, 50 yds/46 m):
18 (21, 22, 23, 24) skeins #0007 Autumn Red
Size US 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge
Size J/10 (6mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle (tn)
clasp for neck
cable needle (cn) – optional

 

GAUGE
Using size 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles, in Cable Patterns 1 and 3: 10 sts and 18 rows = 4"/10cm; in Cable patt 2: 10 sts and 17 rows = 4"/10cm  

 

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE
T2R (2-st right slanting Twist)
Note: This technique may be worked using a cn, or without a cn.
With a cn – Slip 1 st to cn, hold to back, knit 1, knit 1 from cn.
Without a cn – Knit the second stitch on LH needle, but do not drop stitch from needle,
knit first st on LH needle, drop both stitches from LH needle.

BACK
CO 46 (50, 54, 58, 66) sts.
Hem: (WS) Begin Cable Pattern 3 from Chart. Beginning Row 1, work 4-st repeat across to last 2 sts, end p2 as indicated on Chart; work even as established through Row 15 of Chart, ending with a WS row.
Body: (RS) Begin Cable Pattern 1 from Chart. Beginning Row 1, work 4-st repeat across to last 2 sts, end k2 as indicated on Chart.
Work even as established, repeating Rows 1 – 8 of Chart, until piece measures 22 (22 1/2, 23, 23 1/2, 24)" from beginning, ending with a RS row.
Yoke: (WS) Begin Cable Pattern 2 from Chart.
Work even for 3 rows (knit every row), inc 0 (1, 0, 0, 0), dec 0 (0, 1, 0, 0) sts evenly across last row—46 (51, 53, 58, 66) sts.
Row 4: (RS) Beginning St 2 (2, 1, 1, 2), work to end of 5-st repeat, continue 5-st repeat across center 40 (45, 50, 55, 60) sts, end next rep St 2 (2, 3, 3, 2); continuing as established, repeat Rows 4 – 11 for remainder of Yoke; and AT SAME TIME, beginning this row,
Shape Armhole: (RS) BO 2 (3, 3, 4, 6) sts at beginning of next 2 rows—42 (45, 47, 50, 54) sts remain.   
(RS) Dec 1 st each side EOR 3 (3, 4, 4, 5) times—36 (39, 39, 42, 44) sts remain.
Note: Size Large only – after armhole shaping is completed, to make setting in Sleeves easier, discontinue Cable on first 2 and last 2 sts of row – work these 2 sts in St st for remainder of piece.
Work even until armhole measures 7 1/2 (8, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2)" from beginning of shaping, ending with a WS row.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: BO10 (11, 11, 12, 14) sts at beginning of next 2 rows for shoulders—16 (17, 17, 18, 18) sts remaining for neck.
BO remaining sts loosely.

 

LEFT FRONT
CO 23 (25, 27, 29, 33) sts. 
Hem: (WS) Begin Cable Pattern 3 from Chart. K3 (1, 3, 1, 1) for center Front edge sts, beginning Row 1, work Sts 3 and 4 of 4-st repeat, then work 4-st repeat across next 16 (20, 20, 24, 28) sts, end p2 as indicated on Chart; work even as established through Row 15 of Chart, ending with a WS row.
Body: (RS) Begin Cable Pattern 1 from Chart. Beginning Row 1, maintaining center Front edge sts as established, work 4-st repeat across to last 2 sts, end k2 as indicated on Chart.
Work even as established, repeating Rows 1 – 8 of Chart, until piece measures 22 (22 1/2, 23, 23 1/2, 24)" from beginning, ending with a RS row.
Yoke: (RS) Begin Cable Pattern 2 from Chart.

Shape Armhole: (RS) BO 2 (3, 3, 4, 6) sts at beginning of this row—21 (22, 24, 25, 27) sts remain.(RS) Dec 1 st at armhole edge EOR 3 (3, 4, 4, 5) times, and AT SAME TIME, at beginning of next (WS) row,
Shape Neck: At neck edge, dec 1 st this row, then every 4 rows 7 (2, 4, 2, 0) times, every 5 rows 0 (5, 4, 6, 8) times—10 (11, 11, 12, 14) sts remain for shoulder. Work even until armhole measures same as Back to shoulder, ending with a WS row.
Shape Shoulder: (RS) As for Back.

 

RIGHT FRONT
Work as for left Front, reversing pattern placement and all shaping; begin center Front edge sts at end of first WS row, shape armhole at beg of WS rows, neck at beg of RS rows.

 

SLEEVES
CO 30 (34, 34, 38, 38) sts.
Hem: (WS) Work as for Back for 15 rows, ending with a WS row.
(RS) Begin Cable Pattern 1 from Chart. Beginning Row 1, work 4-st repeat across to last 2 sts, end k2 as indicated on Chart. Continuing as established, repeat Rows 1 – 8 of Chart,
Shape Sleeve: Inc 1 st each side every 40 (0, 44, 44, 15) rows 1 (0, 1, 1, 4) time(s), working increased sts in St st as they become available—32 (34, 36, 40, 46) sts. Work even until piece measures 17 (17 1/2, 18, 18, 18)" from beginning, ending with a WS row.
Shape Cap: (RS) Continuing in pattern as established, BO 2 (3, 3, 4, 6) sts at beginning of next 2 rows—28 (28, 30, 32, 34) sts remain.(RS) Dec 1 st each side EOR 10 times—8 (8, 10, 12, 14,) sts remain. BO remaining sts.

 

FINISHING
Block pieces to measurements, if necessary, following instructions on ball band. Join shoulder seams.
Front Bands and Neck Edging:
Row 1:
With RS facing, using crochet hook, beginning at lower right Front, work sc evenly up Front edge to beginning of neck shaping, work 2 sc in corner st, continue along neck shaping to left Front, work 2 sc in corner st, work to lower edge of left Front, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, sc in first st from hook, *ch 1, sc in next st; repeat from * up left Front, around neck, and down right Front to lower edge.
Fasten off. Set in Sleeves; sew side and Sleeve seams. Weave in ends. Sew clasp to Fronts at beginning of neck shaping.
